Barnwell fined for dissent
Guyana’s Chris Barnwell was fined 10% of his match fee for showing dissent at the umpire’s decision after being dismissed against T&T in the final. He pleaded guilty to the charge brought by on-field umpires Gregory Brathwaite and Patrick Gustard, TV umpire Leslie Reifer Jr and fourth umpire Joel Wilson, admitting that he had shown “excessive and obvious disappointment with umpire Brathwaite’s decision and proceeded to shake his head while walking towards the players’ pavilion”, according to a WICB release. Barnwell was out lbw to Dwayne Bravo in the game, for a duck.
A century from Jason Mohammed anchored Trinidad & Tobago to a total of 200 for 8, and it proved amply defendable as Sunil Narine ran through Guyana to finish with figures of 6 for 9. Guyana tumbled to 65 all out, their innings lasting only 23.5 overs.Guyana made a rapid start to the chase, with Trevon Griffin making a 28-ball 31 to move the score to 35 for 0 in six overs. It was at this point that Narine came on and struck immediately, having Griffith caught at slip with his fifth ball. Guyana’s innings thereafter was a procession, with no other batsman getting into double figures.Sent in to bat, T&T lost Evin Lewis off the first ball of the match, lbw to Paul Wintz. They had added only 14 to their score when Wintz struck again to have Darren Bravo caught at square leg. This brought Mohammed to the crease, and he dominated the rest of the innings with an unbeaten 132-ball 117, even as wickets kept falling at the other end. Only three other batsmen got into double figures, with the opener Jeremy Solozano’s 21 the second-highest score of the innings. Apart from Wintz’s strikes at the top, the spinners dominated the wickets, with offspinner Royston Crandon, left-arm spinner Veerasammy Permaul and legspinner Devendra Bishoo sharing six wickets.
