Olise swapped Crystal Palace for Bayern this summer for £50.8 million ($67m), with the 22-year-old bagging an assist in three games for the German giants. Now, the Daily Mail reports that United were so intent on signing the France Under-21 international this summer that they were ready to enlist the help of legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson to persuade Olise to join. Although they were pipped to the winger's signature, they are said to be in pole position to recruit him if he decides to move on in the future.

United spent around £200m ($263.5m) this summer, taking their expenditure under manager Erik ten Hag to upwards of £600m ($790.7m), but the Dutchman and his players are under pressure already after two losses in their opening three games. Olise may not have solved their issues, but the outlook may have been a bit better if Olise was in the team.
