A big section of the Bulgarians in attendance in Sofia brought great shame upon their country and football team.
However, one man representing the European nation did something rather commendable.
Ivelin Popov actually spoke to the supporters during the game, imploring them to stop their racist antics.
As easy as it is to focus on the negative behaviour of the men in the stands, the actions of Popov should be commended, and Marcus Rashford paid tribute to the Bulgaria skipper on Twitter.
The Manchester United striker stated that Popov was very courageous in his actions and that it shouldn’t go unnoticed.
Hopefully more and more players will now stand up against their own fans when such incidents occur, and it may be a small step towards solving an issue that currently has no end in sight.
