Wolves are edging closer to making a late move in the January transfer window after a trio of players were linked with the club, one of which is Olympiacos winger Daniel Podence, who Tim SpiersÂbelieves is the perfect fit.
What’s he said?
According to the Spiers himself, Wolves are in talks with the 24-year-old and are even confident of clinching him before the deadline in just over a week.
While the Express & Star claim the Greek Superleague giants will demand a fee of around £21m, although it remains to be seen what sort of move the Midlands outfit have in mind.
The 5 foot 5 nimble winger is a client of Jorge Mendes’ agency Gestifute.
Speaking on the first edition of The Athletic’s new Wolves podcast, ‘The Molineux View,’ Spiers gave out his verdict on Podence, he said:
“As is Daniel Podence from Olympiacos, who by all accounts put in a fantastic performance against Spurs earlier this season. Very pacy winger and can play on the left or the right, 24 [years old]. He’s got a decent record in terms of goals. Formerly at Sporting [Lisbon]. Ticks all the Wolves boxes.Â
“I know it’s a bit of a running joke about these Portuguese players coming in but it helps them settle in so quickly because you’ve got six Portuguese staff, six or seven Portuguese players. They can all mix with each off the field, speak the language, etc.”

Strength in depth
It is no secret that Wolves are desperate for additions and after The Athletic revealed they were expecting to conclude two deals for attacking players before the end of the window, so a move for a versatile forward is no surprise.
Podence is primarily a winger but can play anywhere along the front three meaning he can offer healthy competition or an alternative option to the likes of Raul Jimenez and Adama Traore, who both currently have no senior choices behind them in the pecking order.
Call yourself a Wolves expert? How much did each of these January signings cost?
The club are often very picky with who they bring in as manager Nuno Santo likes to operate a small squad of players, but Spiers suggests that the Portuguese wide man ticks all the boxes that Wolves desire.
This is usually along the lines of being from somewhere in Europe – often Portugal, not England – or has had some sort of contact with Mendes, is young and can develop into something under Nuno’s guidance.
