They have not always seen eye to eye since heading in different directions, with Rooney critical of Ronaldo’s second spell with United that started in 2021. He said of the Portuguese superstar: “The things he has done from the start of season, it is not acceptable for Manchester United.”
Ronaldo bit back during an interview with Piers Morgan, saying: “I don’t know why he criticises me so badly… probably because he finished his career and I’m still playing at a high level. I’m not going to say that I’m looking better than him. Which is true…”
WHAT WAYNE ROONEY SAID
Rooney has now risked incurring Ronaldo’s wrath again while shooting a video for in which he had to try and guess the identity of former colleagues from their hair cut alone. He was able to pick out Marouane Fellaini, David de Gea, Nani and David Beckham, while also getting Paul Pogba after initially going for Wilfried Zaha.
When it came to Ronaldo, Rooney plumped for Argentine striker Tevez with his first guess. The ex-England captain said after eventually settling on five-time Ballon d’Or winner CR7: “He’ll be fuming with that.”
