Van Dijk put pen to paper on a new two-year Liverpool deal until 2027 on Thursday, ending months of speculation about his future. Now, The Athletic states his salary is believed to be in the region of £400,000 per week, allowing him to maintain his status as Europe's best-paid defender.

Although Van Dijk turns 34 this summer, the Dutchman is still arguably one of the best centre-backs in the world. Liverpool looked set to lose him on a free transfer this summer, along with Mohamed Salah, but both have now committed their futures to the Reds in a huge boost for Arne Slot's side.

The report adds that Van Dijk's deal has no break or release clauses and the Netherlands international will not be taking a pay cut. He received offers from other teams but the ex-Southampton man is staying at Anfield.
