Worcestershire have indicated they are keen to re-sign Zaheer Khan if he wants to play county cricket again.”Without a moment of hesitation, if Zaheer Khan was available and decided that he wanted to play, then we would welcome him back,” Mark Newton, the Worcestershire chief executive, told PA Sport.Zaheer took more than 100 wickets in his stint with the county last season, which helped the team earn a promotion in both the Pro40 and County Championship.”We’d like to think that given the opportunity he would like to come back to Worcestershire. Zaheer took more than 100 wickets and didn’t miss a game last season. For an overseas player, that is something very special,” Newton said. “He went down so well with everybody here and he is someone we have the highest respect for.”I don’t think anyone would disagree that, if we use our overseas allocation, then it will be on the bowling front because we believe we would still have a strong batting line-up.”However, Newton said that there had been no talks with the player yet. Following the stint, Zaheer made his way back to the Indian team. Zaheer, currently in England with the team, was the star performer in the second Test triumph against England at Trent Bridge. There have also been reports of the county being interested in Munaf Patel, who missed out on India’s tour to England.
